Here’s Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge No. 216, Synonymons Only. The words to work from are Eager & Hope!
I chose a picture to work with and came up with this Hagia, (5/7/5 Senryu and image.)
The flame is my faith
Longing for you to emerge
From the dire darkness.
“Dire darkness” really struck me, Denise. Nicely done.
Thank you, Staci. It took me a bit to find that combination to fit the poem.
Short, simple, powerful image. Nicely done Denise!

Thank you, Eden. Images always spark my imagination. xo
What Staci said! This is filled with yearning and maybe a touch of… fear?
Thanks, Jacquie 🙂 Yes, and perhaps a bit of sadness mixed in too.
Faith in any form is a hard nut to come by sometimes in these dire days.
Keeping a positive flame alive helps all of us 😀
I agree it is hard to hold on to. But if one can be a flame does help us all.
Beautiful, Denise. I keep a candle burning in my office. Its flame reminds me of all those on my prayer list. It’s also a comfort to me in times of need – much like your poem. 💗
I love you kept a candle lit and that it reminds of those to pray for and gives you comfort. There is something special about the light from a candle:) Thank you, Gwen xo
Short and oh so sweet, Denise! Great job!
Thank you, Jan 🙂 I love working with this format and getting something across in few words. Xo
The words echo the picture. Love it.
Thank you, Sandra 🙂 I took that picture in passing the night before. Xo
Beautiful.
Wishing you a weekend filled with joy and creativity.

I agree
Short but a lot to grab my attention.
Thanks, Jacqui! I like to try to do that in the fewest amount of words.
Such a powerful tercet, Denise. Well done!
Thank you, Pat 🙂
Beautiful senryu
Thanks, Jude 😉
My pleasure
That last line is a kicker, nice.

Thanks, Pat 🙂
Nice. Short, sweet, and to the point. I think a lot of us are wanting to emerge from darkness right now. : )
Thanks, Cathleen:) I think you are very right about wanting to emerge from the darkness!
Don’t know what Hagia is, but love your poem.
Thank you:) I’m glad you like it. It is a Haiku/Senryu that compliments a image.
Such a gift you have. You can say so much in so few words. Well done, Denise!
Thank you, Mark. It is a fun challenge.
