I did my first short story fictional challenge over on Vocal. It was a Horror Fiction Challenge set by a body of water. How could I pass that up?
Here’s what I came up with. If you like it, please give it a heart and share if you can.

Brilliant, Denise! Taut, intense writing which thoroughly captivated me! I was hooked and raced to the finish … I’ll approach lakes with caution from now on! 😀
Thank you, Annika:) Glad to hear you liked it. I never did like the fact I couldn’t see the bottom of a lake.
You got my heart. Great job!
Thanks,Staci! xo
Wow. That’s some story! Fascinating. Vera is mean.
You did a great job with this. Thanks for sharing. 👏
Thank you, Selma. She was definitely hungry that is for sure.
I loved it, and left a heart.
Thank you, Craig! Appreciated!
Very creepy tale, Denise. I gave it a heart!
Thank you, Mae. I appreciate the heart 🙂
And I thought sharks were dangerous. Add ‘lovely peaceful lakes’ to that list!
LOL! Never know what lurks at the bottom!
It was a chilling story, Denise!!!
Thank you, Jan 🙂
Cool story! I loved the end…
Thank you, Willow 🙂
Wow! Your words possess the power to transport the reader to the surroundings that you’ve described so well Denise! Oh, this was spooky!
Thank you, Balroop. That makes me happy to hear the story transported you to the lake.
Ack! That is a freaking freaky scary story. And I get nightmares. And no more lake visits for me! In other words, good job Denise! 🙂
LOL! I still enjoy lakes to swim in, but I’m careful not to touch the bottom once I get in…
I’m the same!
All those precursor words like red and haunted told me something bad was about to happen! Creepy good, Denise 🙂
Thank you, Jacquie. I’m glad they worked 🙂
Brilliant! I gave it a heart, Denise. I’m glad our lake is not in a remote area. 🙂
Our little lake has plenty of people around at least during the warm months.
I have heard of many spooky stories, several are from friends’ personal experiences. I’ll have to pick up my courage to write them someday, Denise.
I’d be interested in hearing them 🙂
Probably I could write flash fiction but not a book out of them. 🙂
Clever. Very clever. Your story hooked me right away and kept me racing along. Well done!
Thank you, TS 🙂 Glad to hear it got you hooked!
What a story, Denise! When I first began reading, I had no clue where the story was going but I was hooked. Very well done!
Thanks, Marlena 🙂 I’m glad it surprises you!
Very creepy, Denise. A great story.

Eerily tantalizing!
