Fall Poem

Here’s a poem I wrote from the back of a Harley last weekend. I added it to  “Just Her Poetry” that is an upcoming release:

THE OCTOBER SUN

The October sun bleeds through the trees

Clotting up before it reaches me.

The wind is a chilling reminder that I’m alive.

And it’s the end of a day…

On a ride through the tall pines and cedars.

It’s the end of the weekend…

As we race the impeding darkness home.

Ending in a grateful moment…

Existing in the changing blood-tinted landscape,

Dripping its beauty upon my eyes in memories.

I am at peace with myself and the changes.

In a time when my body and nature

Surges through each other, flowing and ebbing.

Feeling the grip of fall in my bones

I welcome it all as we pass a house…

Decorated for the coming holiday

In spiders, tombs, pumpkins, and ghosts.

This is an October ride…on the back of a Harley.

I hope that put you in the Halloween mood like it did me!

    1. I’m glad it did John:) I always try to hang on to that last of the weekend feel for as long as I can!

  1. This is very descriptive, Denise, and I could almost feel the air on my face as I rode along with you. Yes, this is perfect for the upcoming Halloween holiday!

  2. I’m glad you could ride along with me on this. Wouldn’t it be great if we could do this in real life?

  3. I love the “clotting” sun and the idea of a ride through “tall pines and cedars”
This was gorgeous and dripping with autumn imagery. Nicely done!

  4. I loved taking this ride with you. I could feel the October temps, see the changing colors…yep, it was delightful traveling with you. ♥

    1. Thanks Gwen. I was glad you could go along with me and see the fall through my Halloween eyes.

  5. A Beautifully evocative poem, Denise! I’m delighted to learn that this will be included in a new release. When do you anticipate releasing it?

    1. Thanks Soooz! I’m hoping by the end of the year. I wanted to add a couple more fall poems to it. I seem to write more in the spring for some reason. Have to finish up my Christmas Short first.

      1. I hear you about writing more in the spring, I think it has something to do with the rebirth of all things that have lay dormant throughout the winter months. It’s spring here in Oz now and my muse is in hyper-drive. Looking forward to reading your Christmas short as well.😊

      2. That yearly rebirth is inspiring… I love to go sit and be in it. Fall keeps me busy and I seem to have less time to write, although I love this season just as much as I get ready to hibernate. I have to finish up on my edits this week and get it edited. I tried to write a sweet story, but it took a darker turn…lol

    1. Thank you Julie:) It is a beautiful time of year, when the look landscape is startlingly. I wish it lasted a bit longer…

  6. You can count me in for the ride on the Harley. When I was in college, I had a boyfriend who had a Yamaha. We rode through the streets of New York and had a blast. Love the poem–love fall–love the photos. Have a good one!

    1. That sounds fun Patricia! We need a writer’s motorcycle group:) Thank you have a great weekend.
