Here is Colleen Chesebro’s TANKA TUESDAY Weekly POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 244.  It’s an Ekphrastic photo prompt with the image  chosen by Merril. D . Smith.

I went with a tanka format 5/7/5/7/7.

black and white print with distorted houses and a skelton sitting on the porch

humanity stripped
world tilted and distorted
exposed to the pain
haunted by heavy mistakes
I live in my misery

If you enjoy the weekly poetry challenges from Colleen Chesebro, then you don’t want to miss pre-ordering Word Weaving #1: A Word Craft Journal of Syllabic Verse. It has a lot of poets who contributed; myself included. I picked up my copy! I have a feeling this will be a must-read for poetry lovers.

    1. Thanks, Eden 🙂 That picture reminded me of depression and of our humanity being stripped away slowly. Happy Autumn!

      1. I’m always intrigued by how different authors see the same photo or word prompt and come away with different stories or poems. That’s what makes each of us unique.

    1. Thank you, Miriam 🙂 Yes, it is scary season now that fall has arrived. Although, we start Halloween here a bit earlier… lol

    2. How cute, Miriam 🙂 Mine want to be Dorothy and the Good Witch from Wizard of Oz. I believe they want me to dress up as the wicked witch…lol

      1. This is a fun time of the year for the kids. My daughter’s neighborhood was very creative for trick or treating last year because of Covid. One neighbor used a tube to give candies from the upstairs window. 🙂

  1. Powerful, Denise. “World tilted and distorted” — you’ve captured the image and our collective situation. When the humanness of humanity is stripped, what do we have left? We all need to hold tight to love. From my perspective, it is our only hope. 💗

    1. Thank you, Gwen. I do feel like we are losing ourselves in the name of fear and hate. I agree love is the way to heal this mess. I’m starting to see more glimmers of it lately and feel encouraged. xo

  2. Misery indeed. When some refuse to get vaccinated and cause even those who have been ‘shot’ to get Covid and then have to have the family separated for 14 days… and the children cry for their parent who for their safety must leave home.

It is difficult to live in a free society and have rules that are either lax or can’t be enforced. That can created prejudice for those who comply or don’t. And that isn’t including all the other societal ills already existing….

    1. You make a good point Jules of the separation within our society and how the virus has compounded that. My heart goes out to the families who have been effected and pulled apart right when they need each other. I like to think we have a choice in whether we dive into that misery.
