New Release—Jagged Feathers by Jan Sikes! @jansikes3 #RomanticSuspense #WhiteRuneSeries #newrelease #whattoread #writingcommunity

I’m thrilled to have fellow Story Empire Author here today to share her good news—the release of Jagged Feathers. I just finished it, and LOVED it! Here’s my review on Amazon.

Thank you, Denise, for inviting me to your blog site today to talk about my new book, JAGGED FEATHERS! I appreciate your generosity.

I am a huge fan of Ernest Hemingway. He was such a brilliant writer, but he also possessed deep insight into certain aspects of life. I’ll never understand what drove him to commit suicide.

In Jagged Feathers, Nakina Bird keeps a Hemingway quote next to her computer, and it gives her hope for healing from her grief after losing her parents in a horrific accident.

EXCERPT

She(Nakina) flashed on the Hemingway quote that was taped to the wall above her computer back home. The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.

Finding the quote shortly after her parent’s death, she knew she had broken in places that would, by force, eventually be stronger. She wondered if it was the same for the soldier who had rescued her and so unselfishly and tenderly nursed her back to health.

***

I’ve given Hemingway’s words a lot of thought and find it them to be true. When my husband passed away, there is no question some part of me was broken. But when I started writing our story, piece by piece, the broken places began to mend and are now stronger than before. So, from a personal perspective, this quote is significant. Does the quote resonate with you in any way? I’d love to hear from you.

BOOK TRAILER

BLURB

Vann Noble did his duty. He served his country and returned a shell of a man, wounded inside and out. With a missing limb and battling PTSD, he seeks healing in an isolated cabin outside a small Texas town with a stray dog that sees beyond his master’s scars. If only the white rune’s magic can bring a happily ever after to a man as broken as Vann.

On the run from hired killers and struggling to make sense of her unexplained deadly mission, Nakina Bird seeks refuge in Vann’s cabin. She has secrets. Secrets that can get them all killed.

A ticking clock and long odds of living or dying, create jarring risks.

Will these two not only survive, but find an unexpected love along the way? Or, will evil forces win and destroy them both?

  1. Hi Jan, Hi Denise,
Oh yes, that quote resonates with me. Broken places are very tough rivers, mountains, paths that you have to cross. If you refuse to cross the spots never heal and you never move farther.

Wishing you both a lovely weekend.
    Shalom aleichem

  5. Ernest Hemingway. Such a treasure! The quote you’ve shared is a beautiful one. I love how it ties into your story. It’s so true. For me, my first thought on broken pieces come from my failed marriages, and I can definitely say that those parts of me are much stronger than they once were. Thank you for sharing this side of your story and yourself, Jan. Denise, thank you for being a wonderful host as always! <3

    1. I agree,Linnea, it was a very fitting quote for this book! Thanks for coming by and supporting Jan 🙂

  8. The Japanese have turned the meaning of Hemingway’s quote into an art form. Kintsugi is fixing broken pottery with gold, making it not only more interesting and adding beauty, but making it more valuable. I believe it’s how God fixes us as life breaks us in many ways, making us stronger and more able to shed light to encourage others. It’s what you do, Jan, and so beautifully in your writing. I started reading the book last night and love it already. Denise, you’re another light-shedder. So glad you’re hosting Jan on this wonderful tour.

    1. Oh, I love that, Patty. Thank you for sharing that Japanese art technique. How beautiful! I’m thrilled that you are reading Jagged Feathers! I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for stopping by today and leaving a comment! I appreciate your support!

  9. Powerful quote, Jan. When my dad died suddenly, I felt like my heart literally ripped in two. It took a long time to get over that pain and see through to the other side with healing memories that strengthened our bond- even though he’s at that great fishing spot in the sky.
I’m glad you were able to find solace in telling your story, as well.

    1. I’m so sorry, Jacquie. A sudden death does rip your heart out and is hard to recover from. It’s nice to see stories where people are recoverying from powerful events. Thank you for supporting Jan. xoox

    2. I totally understand that pain, Jacquie. It feels like nothing in the world will ever be good or right again, but it always is and our loved ones would want us to go on and life to the fullest. Thank you for leaving a comment today. Sending warm hugs!

  10. What a powerful introduction Denise! I know that healing of wounds may take time but we emerge stronger. Pains and hurts ennoble us. This sounds like a lovely book. Wishing you great success Jan.

    1. It is a great read, Balroop. If we can heal it sure makes us stronger for sure. Thank you for supporting Jan!

  11. That’s a great quote, Jan, and while it has a ring of truth, I’ve learned that the words I choose to use carry weight within them, so I prefer to resonate with being bent, not broken. I’m looking forward to reading this story. 🙂

    1. That’s great you realize the power of your words, and I like you look at it as being bent not broken. How we come back does make us who we are or perhaps meant to be. Thank you for supporting Jan by stopping by 🙂

    2. Bent, not broken, is a powerful and inspiring visual, Yvette. And you are right about the weight of the words we carry. It pays to be present and aware. Thank you for stopping by today!

    1. It is a great quote and really applies to story! I was happy to host, Teri. Thank you for stopping by and supporting Jan 🙂

  12. What a great quote from Hemingway. I immediately thought of Charles Franklin’s statement, “No one gets out of this life alive.” I’m looking forward to reading Jagged Feathers. Congratulations, Jan, and thank you for hosting, Denise. 💗

    1. That is another great quote, Gwen. Thank you so much for sharing. No one gets out alive as far as the body is concerned, but I am convinced life doesn’t end with the body does. I appreciate your support so much!

    2. Another good quote and reminder that our time is limited here and we shouldn’t waste it. Happy to host and thank you for supporting Jan 🙂

  13. An exciting new release! Congratulations Jan! You also did a great job on the trailer. Thank you, Denise, for being the supportive person you are, 🙂

    1. Wasn’t that a great trailer? It really fits the book. Happy to support and Thank you for dropping by and offering your support, Mark 🙂

  14. I’m reading this incredible book now. Jan you are masterful in writing with your characters emotions jumping off the page into our hearts. This book is phenomenal.

    1. Hi, Tonya! Somehow, I missed your comment and for that apologize. Thank you for the incredibly kind words and I am so glad you are enjoying Vann and Nakina’s story!

  15. Hi Denise, what a great post. Jan has worked hard for her success, but her stories are worth every second. This one is no exception. It is outstanding.

    1. She sure does work hard and yes, her stories are worth it, Rox. Thanks for dropping by and supporting Jan!

  16. I’m sorry I missed this post. I love this story and was fully immersed in it on the first page. Jan was turned into a very gifted writer and has great instincts about what a story needs in order to bring out the emotion. Van and Nakina leaped off the page and into my heart. I’m very proud of her. She surpasses me in a lot of ways. 🙂

    1. I agree Jan is very gifted writer and comes from a talented family 🙂 These characters did jump into my heart too, Linda!

    2. Thank you, dear sister, for your wonderful comment. I am the writer I am today because of you. You’ve held my hand since day one, so every story I turn out, I owe to you and your teachings. I love you!

  17. That is a great quote by Hemingway. I think people who survive very difficult times are stronger for it. Sometimes, with myself though, I overreact to things and I know it is due to the trauma of the home invasion I experienced and my sons many hospitalisations and operations. It’s as if there are triggers for anxiety.

    1. That makes total sense, Robbie. Traumas don’t ever leave us and certain incidents can definitely trigger them. I’m glad you enjoyed the Hemingway quote and thank you for leaving a comment!
