Here is Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge No. 268. We are challenged to taste the rainbow or write about color.
Last week, I went to the bank driving through a small downpour when saw the sun peeking through the clouds. I knew there had to be a rainbow somewhere and there was. It was the most beautiful one I’d ever seen. The main one was double the colors and then another one framed it. I could almost touch them. Of course, in my hurry to get to the bank, I forgot my phone and any chance of getting a picture of it. Yet, at that moment I got a strong message that everything was going to be okay.
the day dull and gray
heavily laden with fear
until light breaks through
coloring my opaque soul
in a rainbow of hushed hope
This is just superb, Denise. It sounds like the sight was absolutely gorgeous, and your verse resonates so beautifully, I especially love “coloring my opaque soul in a rainbow of hushed hope.” ❤️
Thank you, Mae 🙂 It was something I will never forget. So many people had stopped what they were doing and were enjoying it!
I think it’s okay to take a photograph in your head instead of on your phone. That way there’s no filter between you and nature. Beautiful poem, Denise!
Yes, that is the way we used to do things, wasn’t it? It made me pause and enjoy it longer because of that.
That is beautiful. Forgot your phone? I’m surprised it didn’t yell at you as you walked out the door!
Thank you! It probably was yelling but I missed it.

Sometimes we have to enjoy the moment without trying to capture it.
I agree with that, although I think we are doing that less and less. It stays with you differently when you just observe.
Double rainbows always feel special. Lovely poem, Denise.
They sure do, Staci. An exclamation point of their beauty. Thank you 🙂

A few years ago, (also without camera…) I was lucky to see a full double arch over our small local airport building across from where I was doing some shopping! So fun to find single, double and even triple rainbows!
How lucky you got to see that, Jules 🙂 There is nothing quite like seeing these beautiful rainbows!
I was trying to find the one I told you about – I thought our local paper had gotten a photo – I couldn’t find that…but at the link – scroll just a bit to find a surprise by Entwistle 😀
