MY REVIEW

Savage Mayhem (The Mayhem Series Book 9)

By Sue Coletta

“Savage Mayhem” tidies up the Alaska story in an exciting beginning, but soon it’s time for Mayhem and Shawnee to go to their next mission, Yellowstone. I was excited about the setting because Yellowstone is on the top of my list of places I want to visit. The vivid descriptions made me feel like I was there with them. Although even in this place of beauty, the Killzme hunt continues. This time the target is the buffalo—Shawnee and Mayhem. There is the history and importance of the buffalo weaved into the story, and feelings that need to be dealt with. Poe and Shawnee’s relationship is still strained, but she protects the bird even with the animosity between them. It’s always fun to see Mayhem and Shawnee playing husband and wife. This time they are planning their fake wedding at the lodge to provide themselves a cover while trying to stop their enemy. The past comes into play though and needs to be dealt with as they try to save the buffalo herd, themselves, and their working relationship. I have been rooting for Shawnee and Mayhem to take the next step, along with a pair of birds who have found each other, too. This is a story of growth, bravery, insight, and brutal justice. I fall in love with the characters more with each book. I look forward to the next journey and can highly recommend this book and series.

  1. We’ve been to Yellowstone National Park three times and it is indeed an amazing place, and so is the national park next door, The Grand Teton. We had so many close up encounters with bears, including grizzly bears, wolf, and hundreds, if not thousands of buffalo/bison, and elk and moose too. I encourage you to go.

Anyway, this seems to be a very intriguing book. The mass slaughter of buffalo that happened in the past was horrendous, so the Killszme corporation sends chills down my spine. Thank you for a very interesting and informative review.

    1. Hi Thomas, I saw a historical picture of a hunter sitting on a huge mountain of buffalo skulls. Such a tragedy. It happened here too with the elephants. Fortunately, African elephants are making a come back 💚

    2. I plan to go there within the next couple of years, Thomas 🙂 I’ve been making my plans and want to see the Tetons, too. I am ready looking forward to it!

The Buffalo slaughter was horrible, I agree. It pains me to think about some of the cruel stuff people have done and are doing for that matter.

  2. Wonderful showcase and review, Denise. Thank you. I look forward to reading Sue’s book and have pre-ordered it. The underlying story is compelling, and the setting is extraordinary. Bravo to Sue for another masterful novel! 🎉

    1. Thanks, Gwen:) You have a good read ahead. The setting captures my imagination and the buffalo my heart. Xo

    1. Thank you, Denise! I love anyplace that focuses on the wildlife. I’ve wanted to write a novel set in Yellowstone for a long time. Just needed the right storyline to do it. 😀

    2. I can’t wait to visit Yellowstone, Darlene 🙂 It has always captured my imagination.

    1. Thanks, Priscilla 🙂 Sue does know how to keep the reader on the edge of their seat for sure!

    1. Happy to share it and your amazing story, Sue. Can’t wait to go hang out with the Buffalo, from a safe distance!

  3. Hi Denise, a fabulous review. I will be reading Sue’s previous book soon. I’m currently in Victorian England, England in the 1950’s, a poetry book, and the New York running community for the blind. All 4 books are at various stages of completion 😉

    1. Thanks, Robbie 🙂 You have a good read ahead! You are covering a lot in your current WIP! Can’t wait to read them 🙂 xo

  4. I can’t wait for this one to hit my Kindle! I love the missions Shawnee and Mr. Mayhem go on to save animals from horrible humans. Thank you for featuring Sue here today, Denise and a big congrats to Sue!

    1. I love those missions too, Jan 🙂 I wish animals didn’t need to be saved from greedy horrible humans. It is another great read though. Xo

  5. The killing of the buffalo, when the population was reduced from millions to fewer than 1,000 in the late 1800s under the excuse of westward expansion, is another in a long line of things where Native Americans were harmed or taken advantage of. Sue’s book sounds great!

    1. Yes, Pete, cruel policies of the past that are still coming to light. It is a good read and series.

    2. Thank you, Pete! The slaughter of buffalo was, and still is, disgraceful. My Native characters share the monstrosities committed against them.

  6. I’m a few books behind on this series, but hopefully, I can pick up with this one and not be lost. It sounds thoroughly engrossing. Congrats to Sue. I’m headed to Amazon to pre-order.

    1. I started in the middle, Mae, and just recently caught up on the series. I’ve never gotten lost, but I like knowing the background too.

      1. I’ve got all the early background done. It’s just the last few books I need to catch up with. Sounds like I’ll be able to navigate this one okay. I’m looking forward to it!

  7. Great review, Denise, and congrats Sue on writing a suspenseful book that educates as well as entertains. The buffalo slaughter is so hard to read about, but we must learn from our history and how to make things right. But besides all this, sounds like a great read. I always enjoy seeing Sue Coletta’s name (and promos) come up, as my guy’s last name is spelled the same. One L, two T’s. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Pamela 🙂 I love the same thing to not only be entertained but also educated too. Yes, a lot to learn, repair, and move forward from now, I agree. Xo

  8. Wow, that’s quite a tantalizing review. I can’t believe it’s book 9 already in Sue’s successful series. Hugs xx
