Introduction

I’m thrilled to introduce today’s guest, Patricia Furstenberg. I have read and enjoyed many of her books and very excited to be a part of this anthology with her. Here are Patricia’s thoughts on poetry:

Celebrating “Poetry Treasures”: 5 Simple Reasons Why Poetry Holds My Heart

With an enthusiasm for poetry I reflect on the release of our collaborative poetry collection, “Poetry Treasures 4: In Touch with Nature.” As a writer and poet I am drawn to poetry’s intrinsic beauty, and I’d like to share with you five reasons why this art form is so special to me. Because poetry can be often overlooked, perceived as an outdated and sometimes uninteresting genre, often associated with clichés, and one that requires a significant amount of time and patience to fully appreciate.

Despite common misconceptions, poetry is an effective form of communication that incorporates emotions, experiences and the beauty of nature into language. Poetry inspires creativity, provides therapeutic relief and communicates profound truths through carefully chosen words. Poetry is a journey of self-discovery that promotes harmony and connects us to the natural world’s beauty and truth. “Poetry Treasures 4: In Touch with Nature” honors this timeless magic, moving hearts and inspiring minds.

Here are five simple yet profound reasons why I adore poetry.

Like a magic key, poetry unlocks communication skills. Poems are so much more than just words strung together. Verse are formed through weaving emotions, thoughts and experiences into a linguistic tapestry. Poetry promotes effective communication, both with ourselves and with others, through the rhythm and rhyme of its lines. As we explore the complexities of poetic expression, we gain a better understanding of language and improve our communication skills.

Poetry inspires creative ideas. The beauty of poetry lies in its ability to pique our interest and generate new ideas. Poetry, whether through the timeless verses of classical poets or the contemporary musings of modern wordsmiths, has the ability to transport us to realms of creativity we were unaware of. Reading and writing poetry stimulates our imagination, encouraging us to consider new perspectives and appreciate the beauty of spoken language.

Poems have therapeutic benefits. Poetry serves as a spiritual refuge, providing solace and healing during difficult times. Reading poetry allows us to explore the depths of human emotion, providing comfort and understanding in the face of adversity. Poetry’s lyrical verses serve as a mirror to our own experiences, allowing us to navigate the complexities of life with grace and resilience.

Words strung in poems gain magical powers. In the intricate tapestry of poetry, every word and line has significance. Poets use verse to convey profound truths and evoke deep emotions. As we immerse ourselves in the world of poetry, we develop a greater appreciation for the nuances of language and the transformative power of words.

Cultivating harmony and enlightenment: poetry is more than just words on a page; it is a journey of self-discovery and awakening. Through the rhythm and flow of poetic verse we find inner harmony and connect with the world around us. Poetry has the unique ability to cross boundaries and bring us together in a shared experience of beauty and truth.

I urge you to look at “Poetry Treasures” as more than just a collection of poems, because it demonstrates poetry’s enduring power to touch hearts, inspire minds, and illuminate what it means to be human. Enjoy the experience!

    1. So happy to have you visit, Patricia:) I love your take on poetry, so true! I agree there is some magic there.

  1. Ah, thank you Denise 🤗

I’m thrilled to get to know more about Patricia. 18 books to date?! Everyone here is so blessed to be among someone like Patricia (and you “too” Denise…eco poet.)
    How right Patricia is:
“Poetry inspires creativity, provides therapeutic relief and communicates profound truths through carefully chosen words.”
    Ain’t this the truth!
    And…

“Poetry is a journey of self-discovery that promotes harmony and connects us to the natural world’s beauty and truth. “Poetry Treasures 4: In Touch with Nature” honors this timeless magic, moving hearts and inspiring minds.”

With these two quotes I bow to your guest today. Thanks for the delightful introduction. And congratulations to all the poets in the anthology. Xoxo 🤗

    1. To gather around a book 12 writers passionate about poetry is such a treat for all of us. I enjoyed being part of Poetry Treasures group. Meeting and reading so many inspiered thoughts was awe inspiring.

Thank you for your kind words, Selma. Your beautiful reading from yesterday’s leg of our blog tour still haunts my mind.

  2. Wonderful post, Denise. ❤️ Congratulations to each of the contributors of this amazing poetry collection. And a special thank you to Patricia for so beautifully capturing the value of poetry.

    1. Thank you, Timothy:) I’m happy to be a part of this and loved Patricia insight into poerty!

    1. Thanks, Kymber 🙂 So happy to have Patricia here today sharing her feeling about poetry!

    1. Thank you, Marje, for your support. Your comment just got you a chance at a free digital copy. Be sure to visit the other stops for more chances. 🙂

  3. Poetry is magic… I agree with Patricia. I’ve often said when we write poetry, we’re creating a magic spell with our words. Fabulous to know more about Patricia. I tried to buy the print book, and Amazon says they’re out of copies!! Wow! Thanks so much, Denise & Patricia, for such a lovely post. 💜

    1. Ah, yes, Colleen, white magic 🙂
Speaking of, I loved how you used vivid imagery and evocative language in “The Storm”. How you captured nature’s tumultuous energy. From the Stygian (oh!) clouds that resembled churning waves to the white foam against the backdrop of a smashed pumpkin sunset, your words painted a vivid picture of the storm’s fury.
Thunder, rain, and lightning were magical primal forces, while the subsequent calm (that last word!) provided an opportunity to reflect on the sea’s enduring power. I was there, in the middle of tht storm. Your poem brilliantly captured the majesty and mystery of nature’s fury. 🙂

      1. Patricia, thanks so much for your thoughtful insights. I’m blushing! 😊 I love nature poetry (haiku, & syllabic poetry). That particular storm felt like the eclipse energy from earlier this week. I’m always amazed at the natural world around us. In comparison to those magnificent storms, I feel small and in awe of the power of nature.

    2. Hi Colleen,

I think that is an Amazon marketing ploy. The books are P.O.D. I wish they could be in color. 🙁

I will look into it. It is not the first time Amazon has screwed me up.

      1. I preordered a print book as soon as I got the info from you, Kaye. I was hoping the photography would be in color. But there is also magic in black and white, and so I’m still eagerly looking forward to receiving it. Do you have any sense of when it will be actually released?

By the way, I was hoping to see a comment from Kay here, but I emailed you and Robbie, because Kay’s website [bookplaces.blog, I believe it is) was not working last night or this afternoon. She had mentioned she’d had some technical difficulties with it but it had been fixed, but it’s down again today. :-/

    3. I agree with you both, it is magic, Colleen! I had the same message ordering my print copy too on Amazon 🙂

  4. Lovely article. Poetry does communicate as nothing else. I agree with all your points, especially that first–“poetry unlocks communication skills”. Sometimes, a poem says a thought or emotion so much more clearly than any other method.

    1. Thank you for visiting, Jacqui. The beauty of poetry certainly shines through in this anthology. 🙂

    2. It was a great insight by Patricia, Jacqui. Poetry expresses in ways other forms can’t.

  5. Thank you for setting up this wonderful tour stop Denise. 🙂
Patricia your guest post is truly inspiring. I am happy to have you as a part of the Poetry 4 poets. Your contributions have been so appreciated. 🙂

    1. Thrilled to be a part of this, Kaye. I loved Patricia’s beautiful insight into poetry today!

  6. I totally agree with all that has been said about poetry, here. It is indeed a magic key and has therapeutic value – both for the reader as well as the writer. Congratulations to Patricia and wishing her all the best.

  7. What a perfect post, Patricia! This was a great piece; you conveyed so well the beauty of poetry, in all its forms, that you reminded *me* why I love it so much! While I don’t want to repeat your eloquent words, I believe the reasons you and so many of us love poetry as much as we do are the very reasons poetry is still relevant today. In my interview, posted on Kay’s blog yesterday, I made a brief statement of my belief that even those who say they “don’t like poetry” would be definitely charmed and perhaps converted by “Poetry Treasures 4” — for the same reasons you so beautifully expressed. It’s truly a lovely book, one that communicates the complexities of our myriad emotions and also shows the beauty of nature, beautiful in both its poetry and its photography, and I’ve happily shared a few excerpts. Just a few, though–not going to give away the store, as they say. 🙂 Best wishes to all, and happy touring!

    1. Patricia definitely gave is an eloquent Insight into poetry, Emily:) This collection can certainly win over any nonpoetry readers.

    1. Hi Balroop, this is Emily, one of the contributing poets. Kaye will confirm this, I’m sure (or correct it, if necessary), but I believe that the print book coming to Amazon is not yet released but is available to pre-order. And if I recall correctly, the ebook is already available to purchase on a site called books2read (this is the part that I’m a little fuzzy on, but I think that’s the name of it).

    2. I always found Amazon to drag their feet with PODs if they aren’t the first main printer back in the day. I’m sure it will be soon though for it to get done, Balroop.

  8. Poetry Treasures 4: In Touch with Nature seems to be another great collaboration between great authors. I’ve read 100 Word Stories and Dreamland by Patricia Furstenberg and it was a truly amazing book.

    1. Ah, Thomas, thank you for your wonderful and continuous support. I appreciate it.
Someone with a soft spot for dogs surely appreciates poetry:) There is so much of it in a dog’s loving gaze.

🙂 I hope Denise will enter you in the book giveaway 🙂

    2. Thanks, Thomas 🙂 I was just looking for my next read, and your recommendation picked it!

  9. Patricia, I really like your reflection on why poetry is important. I thought the way you organized it into sections where you explain each reason is remarkable. I sense the emotion also that you feel about poetry. I agree that poetry can be therapeutic. I’ve been writing poetry since I was young. I often write in response to things happening in the world. It’s true that reading poetry can be a spiritual refuge as you say and help with healing.
Thanks Denise for hosting today’s stop of the tour.
I want to apologize to everyone for Day 3. My blog was out nearly all day. People said they were getting a message about a critical error. I couldn’t access my own blog. The tech department fixed the errors, but this morning it was locked again. Thanks to Kaye for notifying me this morning it was down again. After assistance from three technicians, my site was up. I hope it stays that way.
I may have to use a new blog. I’ll wait until our book tour is over! 🙃 (That’s me with the upside down head).

    1. Dear Kay, thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your own experience with poetry. It’s wonderful to hear that you found resonance in my reflection and that you’ve been writing poetry since a young age. Writing in response to the world’s happenings sounds incredibly meaningful and powerful. Poetry truly has a way of offering solace and healing during challenging times, as I, too, found out. I’m grateful for your perspective and for connecting over our shared appreciation for poetry. 🙂

    2. I liked the way Patricia organized her poetry thoughts, too, Kay. Writing and reading it can be so healing on many levels. Sorry you had or are having issues with your blog. It is so stressful dealing with the fix. I hope it’s back up and running for you.

  10. HI Denise, thank you for sharing this lovely post. Patricia’s insights into poetry are interesting to read. I agree with Patricia that poetry is a very powerful medium and that is why I like it so much too. I feel my poetry shares a lot more of my passions and spirit in many ways than my prose writing.

    1. Thrilled to share Patricia’s wise insights, Robbie 🙂 You are so right that poetry shares different parts of us than our other writing. I believe it shows the soul. Xo

  11. Patricia is a lovely writer and poet, and it’s a delight to see her work in this collection. Great tour stop, Denise, and congrats to Patricia and to all the authors in the collection. <3

  12. I enjoyed reading this post so much. And yes, poetry IS magic, and has come so far from when I was a high school student and told that poems were challenging and made no sense and you had to work at it like a math puzzle. Even when I was in grad school and took a poetry class, I was told the same thing. I was actually turned off on poetry EXCEPT the little poems I wrote for myself (so helpful and enriching). Then, when I started blogging (ten years ago??) I discovered poetry by bloggers that I sank into, loved, and learned from.

    1. I agree that poetry is magic, Pamela:) I was convinced at one point when I was younger poetry was meant to confuse, the more it did the better it was. Glad we discovered it’s real magic. Xo

    2. Pamela, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and your experience with us.
Yes, I also wander why poetry is the Cruella of the school curriculum? Generations on end are taught to fear it and dislike it.

I look forward to reading your poems. 🙂

  13. So nice to see Patricia as your guest Denise. I loved Patricia’s description on the many ways why poetry speaks to so many. Congrats on the book to all. It’s on my TBR. Hugs <3 xx
