Hi,
Recently, I looked out the window and watched the birds and turkeys enjoying the birdseed. One of my small pleasures in life is watching the wildlife that lives in our forest. I love to capture it in photographs and poetry.
Here are some of the pictures I’ve taken over the years of our animal visitors, along with some recent poetry.

PHOTOS
I’m still trying to get a photo of an opossum, coyote, owl, hawk, and mountain lion. For the mountain lion and coyote picture—I will stay safely in the house.
NOTE: Had another busy week with a sick grand who had an antibiotic reaction. She is completely recovered, but that was scary. Fingers crossed for this week!
Animals and nature will always be a big part of my writing. Embrace your inner child by exploring. Denise

Your photos are fantastic, Denise. I would think it’d be really hard to get a picture of an owl since they hunt at night, but maybe you’ll catch on peeking out of an old, dead tree.
I’m glad your granddaughter has recovered. Yes, I bet that was scary!
Thank you, Priscilla 🙂 I’ve had an owl fly over us while star gazing. It didn’t seem happy ww were there as it did it again. Must have had a nest in the tree above us. Good idea about watching for one in a dead tree. Thank you! I hate seeing kids sick and to react to antibiotics sure got jealous worried. Luckily the doctor took her right in and fixed her up.
You have some serious wildlife, some of which are best viewed from inside. Great pictures and a lovely poem. I’m glad your granddaughter is doing better.
Yes, very serious wildlife, Dan. I am ok with not getting a mountain lion photo. Every so often we get one that borders on aggressive. Thank you! It is a relief she recovered so quickly. Much faster than the worrying adults .
Kids are much more resilient.

Love these, Denise! The most we see are squirrels, turtles, and occasionally a family of ducks walking through the yard. Somehow Bond has missed most of them, lol.
No turtles or ducks here but my daughter has them with a pond across the street. Lol! I think cats choose not to see them. Coco growls everytime a bear or raccoon passes by. I think he believes he is our great protector.
That’s a beautiful poem, Denise! Your wildlife is impressively varies and most of it very different from what we have in Wales. You are blessed to have a forest on your doorstep and the qualities that make animals feel safe in your presence.
Thank you Alex 🙂 We do have a good variety to enjoy. Its even different from our house to our daughter’s. She gets turtles wandering through her property.i am very blessed to have this for so many years. My husband calls me Snow White…lol

I can provide pics of a possom, coyot, and even a hawk (much to my surprise. Not a mountain lion though some of the big cats I see around are scary enough.
You are lucky, Jacqui 🙂 My little possum was too fast for me to get my phone. The coyotes startled me and I forgot to take a pic. It would take nerves of steel to get that mountain lion shot!

wonder if it’s mating season or decided who rules the group?
My husband considered mating season, but it’s not mating season. Could be a dominance activity. We’d just never seen that behavior before.

Great pics, Denise, and such a wealth of wildlife! We get birds, rabbits, hares, hedgehogs and the occasional fox and deer; but bears and even mountain lions … I can’t begin to imagine that. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Thank you, Laura 🙂 Yes we are very lucky at the abundance here. Now, I’ve never see a hedgehog in person I would love that. They do keep us entertained. I didn’t get bears and mountain lions where I grew up so this was all different for me.

Wow! Those photos are awesome! Love the fox and the bear. How wonderful to have the opportunity to enjoy so much of nature! Living in a congested city, I see nothing but pigeons. 🙂 Glad the grand is okay after the antibiotic scare.
