This week’s Colleen Chesebro Weekly Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge is a word prompt: Map. I came up with several ideas but this Senryu/Haiga is the one I connected with the most. I felt it needed a visual.
With no map to guide
My pets and suitcase with me
I drive through the flames.
Keep those who are in danger from fires, hurricanes, tornados, flooding, earthquakes, and other dangerous situations in your heart.
Embrace your inner child! D. L. Finn
Wow! This is an expressive Haiga poem! I fear it carries the flames of truth! Please be safe! Great work! ❤️
Thank you, Colleen. Yes, unfortunately it does.
Powerful Tanka poem… Take good care of yourself. My sis lives in the Sacramento area and keeps me updated about the fires. ♥
Thanks Gwen:) I hope your sister stays safe in Sacramento! Hope you are enjoying your birthday xo
It’s a scary time for so many and your poem speaks to that concern.
Nicely done, Denise.
Thanks Mae. We had a few tense days in our area. xo
I thought you were okay where you are, Denise. These fires are very scary, in the immediate term and in the longer understanding of what they mean in the context of climate change.
We are fine after this round of fires, although we live in a high danger zone. It gets worse every year from draughts, bugs, crazy winds, failed power equipment and so many things. Yes, you can really see the climate change.
You’re so good at this, Denise. I’m also happy to hear you are safe. Hugs on the wing.
Thanks Teagan you made me smile. Hugs back:)
Lovely poem, Denise. Please keep safe during these terrible times. Thinking of you and yours. Hugs x 🙂
Thank you Harmony 🙂 We keep our go bag in the car and hope for the best. Sending hugs back xo
Sadly timely here in California. And with ‘flames’ as a metaphor, it fits so much of today’s world. Thank you, Denise.
It does unfortunately fit both, Jacqui. Stay safe.
Well done, but very scary. Hugs
Thanks Sandra it is. Hugs back.
Very nice poem, Denise. Praying for you and that the fires will be out SOON.
Thank you Karen. Our local fire is under control and hoping the others are out soon and we get some early rains.
Great response to the prompt Denise and with these awful fires, we can only wish safe passage to everyone in their path.. ♥
Thank you, Sally:) Yes, all we can hope for is everyone is able to escape safely.
Oh my gosh. This one made my heart jump, Denise. So many people having to think about this. I hope the fires are far away. <3
Thanks, Diana. Too many have to worry about this, so I always hope for early rains. Our local fire is out thankfully. Hope you are staying safe in Oregon. xo
We’ve had a lot of rain this summer, though not in August. Planning for fire isn’t a wasted effort, but still so scary.
Thinking of you and wishing you rain.
Hugs
Thank you Sandra, sending hugs back!
Sending {{hugs}} and prayers to all in danger. Stay safe!
Denise, I can see this poem at the beginning of a chapter. What a story would follow!! Well done, on this senryu. <3
Thanks, Colleen. I have a feeling it would take a paranmorla twist though…
Oh, yeah… but that can be reveled as you get deeper into the writing. 😉
Wonderful!
Thank you, Traci:)
You’re welcome, D.L.!
🙂
What a powerful image! Great Haiga, Denise. There’s so much going on in the world right now. <3 xo
Thanks, Vashti. Yes, there is in so many ways. Sending hugs.
