WEEKLY #TANKA TUESDAY #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 203. @ColleenChesebro #EKPHRASTIC #PHOTOPROMPT #Renga #Haiku #Hokku #Wakiku

Here’s Colleen M. Chesebro’s WEEKLY TANKA TUESDAY POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 203.

I’m attempting something new, a renga poem based on the image below.

I borrowed Colleen’s explanation of this type of poem from her site.

A renga poem is a cooperative poem, written by two or more poets.

The first three lines, the hokku (haiku portion in 5/7/5),  are written by Colleen.

The next two lines are mine. They are called the wakiku: two seven-syllable lines that connect with the interaction between the different links.

hazy reflections—

crows gather to remember

the gifts of summer

As winter slowly creeps in

Burying those sweet memories.

  1. Denise, your wakiku is lovely. I felt the call of winter in this image too. Of course, the crows have their own mythology, but I always see them more in the winter in the southwest. I like this form. It’s really expressive and allows two viewpoints. Splendid! <3

    1. Thanks Colleen. There was so many ways to go with such a wonderful image, but winter called out to me. We have a pair of ravens who have adopted our property. They keep me amused and love to follow our walks. They also get into our garbage if they can…lol. The crows do have their own mythology and I thought of that too. Glad I tried this it was fun going off an exisiting idea. xo

    1. Yes, I agree. Colleen had a wonderful opener to work off and great idea to do this! Thanks, Marje:) xo

    1. Thanks, Balroop. I didn’t know about this type of poetry before either. I’m really enjoying learning and trying new types of poetry:)

  2. Bravo, Denise! Your wakiku blended seamlessly while still creating contrast to Colleen’s hokku. Together the two of you wrote a beautiful poem. Love it! I’m glad you gave it a try. <3 xo
