Here’s Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge No. 211. This week is poet’s choice or an Abhanga poem.
I decided to try an Abhanga poem.
This explanation is lovingly borrowed from Colleen’s post:
The elements of the Abhanga are:
- stanzaic, written in any number of 4 line stanzas.
- syllabic, 6-6-6-4 syllables each
- rhymed L2 and L3 rhyme. Often internal rhyme is employed. End rhyme scheme x a a x , x being unrhymed.
This picture was taken by the Magic Trail last week. It’s my inspiration for the poem.
FUTURE’S GLOW
My past deep and heavy
Like never-ending snow
Ahead future’s glow
I push forward.

We recently painted our kitchen a pale, pale gray. The color reminded me of you because it makes me think of the color of the sky in the middle of a snow storm, snow girl:)

I’m not a huge fan of rhyme, but this works well. It feels subtle and adds to the flow. 🙂
This style does work subtly. Although, like after I read a Dr. Seuss book, I end up rhyming the rest of the day in my head…lol.

That makes me happy to hear you liked my latest attempt at a new format. I haven’t rhymed in a long time and it usually leaves me rhyming the rest of the day in my head as a side-effect…lol. This was a challenge to do though, but glad I am trying new things.
