Here’s Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge #217.
This week’s theme is “Immortality.”
I immediately wrote several haikus/senryus when I sat and thought about his word. I put three together to explore what’s next, and added a picture I took recently.
My soul a tenant
An earthly body rental
Soon I’ll return home.
*
My body withers
As my memories flood me
Pure light welcomes.
*
I free my last breath
Leaving behind all I’ve known
Starting my journey.
Denise, these are all wonderful, but that first one really speaks to me. Awesome!
Thanks, Mae:) That was the first one I was going to use, but decided to add more for the story. I still had more left I could have added…
I love them all, but I agree with Mae. The first one really speaks to me.
Thanks, Joan:) The was my first choice to go with then I added more in after writing several.
Beautiful, Denise. I love them, and like Joan and Mae, I particularly love the first one. 💗
That was my favorite one too, Gwen. Then I decided it was more a story. Thanks, Gwen 🙂
Lovely, Denise. I hope you’re well. Hugs on the wing.
Thank you, Teagan. I’m doing well and hope you are too. Hugs right back to you.
Nice, Denise. 😁
Thanks, John:)
😊
I like this one, Denise. It’s very hopeful, and I can use that right now. And I quite like them strung together like stanzas. The last is my favorite, but the three together are actually somewhat narrative. : )
Thank you, Cathleen:) I’m glad it could offer you some hope, I think we all need that now. I’ve never tried putting them together to tell narrative, and these fit together well.
Lovely Denise! All three of them complement human life. Strange but I thought of immortal love and wrote a Tanka for my upcoming book. 🙂
Thanks, Balroop. I was really feeling life’s journey for immortal, but I like the other direction of love. I’m excited to hear you have a book coming up. Let me know what I can do to help with the release.
Still in the dream pipeline, compiling, adding more poems and formatting. This would be micro-poetry.
Oh nice, I like that idea.
These are lovely poems, Denise. They express some interesting thoughts on life’s journey.
Thanks, Robbie. I had many come at me for this.
I think it’s a consensus. They’re all wonderful, but that first one really moved me. Nicely done, Denise.
It does seem to be the one most picked and so glad it managed to move you:) Thanks, Staci xo
Awesome, Denise. Alone, they’re great, and together, amazing! 🙂
Thank you, Harmony. I was inspired to try a Haiku story.
Wonderful work.
Thank you. Craig:)
Oh. Wow. You and I are on the same page, Denise. Or should I say, the same haiku. These are magnificent, and the photo is perfect for your reflection. xo
Thank you, Pam. I was lucky to get that shot. They do say great minds think alike, so that could definitely apply to Haikus:)
Yes it can! 😍
With death, comes peace. These poems perfectly portray the journey our spirits take. Beautiful, Denise <3
Thank you, Jacquie:) It is a beautiful journey even with the bumps.
These senryu are so lovely. I love the way you traveled through life with each stanza adding another layer of life. <3
Thank you, Colleen 🙂 I had fun putting it together and they really flowed this time. I always forget these are Senryu, thanks for the reminder. Xo
I know. Everyone just wants to call them haiku. I really loved this sequence. <3
I love this!
Thank you, Mark 🙂
