Here is Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday Weekly Poetry Challenge #238, Synonyms Only. The two words to work from were: Sanctuary & Follow.
I first came up with the line “collapsing onto the altar.” So, I decided this fit nicely into a Butterfly Cinquain 2/4/6/8/2/8/6/4/2. The picture was chosen for the dark mood.
HUNTED
I ran
bare feet bleeding
beaded white dress ragged
collapsing onto the altar
voices
Their cruel chase would continue
No longer my wedding
everyone dead
I ran
Ooo, eerie vibes. Love this one.
Thanks, Priscilla:) I’m getting the Halloween bug already.
This would be good for Friday the 13th!, lol. Great visuals, Denise.
Perfect for a nice Friday the 13th…lol. Thanks, Jacquie 🙂
I agree with Jacquie, perfect for Friday the 13th. Good job, Denise.
Thanks, Miriam. I guess it can be Friday the 13th week:)
Brilliant! I love this, Denise. So dark. 💕🙂
Thanks, Harmony! There is no in-between for me, either postive or dark…lol
Wow, Denise. That was macabre. I loved it. Nicely done.
Thank you, Staci! I tend to write in extremes:)
This one really went to the dark side, Denise. Well done!
It did and I could picture it perfectly…thanks, Jan 🙂
Oooh, very creepy, Denise. It’s a perfect match for the photo!
Thanks, Mae 🙂 I had a hard time finding a photo for this. Couldn’t find a bride running away into the night…lol.
brilliantly dark!
Thank you, Ruth!
Wow! This is eerie but I like it. Great job, Denise!
Thanks, Joan. After that first line came there was no where to go but eerie.

Definitely took a turn into the dark:) Well done and very evocative. xoxoxo
Thanks, Sandra. Yes, it did take that direction into the darkness. xoxoxo
What a great poem for the beginning of a chapter in a horror book! Scary undertones… but I want to know the rest of the story. LOL! <3
It would be great in a horror story. A good prequel of what happened just before… lol. Thanks, Colleen! xo
I always like books that used a piece of poetry as a forward to a chapter. It helps to set the mood. <3
I enjoy that too, Colleen 🙂
A very dark one, Denise. Oh so scary and well done!
Thanks, Diana:) Getting in the Halloween and Friday the 13th mood!
OMG. Does Halloween mean that the summer is almost over???
Once school starts, in my mind summer is over! Can’t wait for a nice wet fall 🙂
Yeah, school is a sure sign that autumn is right around the corner. Rain will be welcome here too.
Denise, a superb poem with incredible atmosphere and intensity! It’s so chilling and yet I now want to know so much more!
Thank you, Annika 🙂 I think my writing is heading into a early Halloween. This one did leave some question unanswered.
Oh my, Denise, this is great but quite chilling.
Thank you, Robbie. It did take a dark turn.
Hope you’ve had a fabulously creative day:)
Thank you, Sandra 🙂 I hope you did too!
Scary for sure!
Thanks, Elizabeth:)
Poor Friday the 13th – one of my favorite good luck days!! 😉
I did think straight to autumn and Halloween though.
While not a wedding in the spy spoof (or one of them) ‘All The Kings Men’ there is such a scene where everyone in the church goes crazy and – well the outcome wasn’t ‘lively’.
Friday the 13th is a lucky day for me, even when it appears not to be 🙂 My thoughts do turn to fall/Halloween now.
I don’t think I’ve seen “All the Kings Men.” I can image if everyone went crazy it wouldn’t have a lively outcome. Thanks, Jules 🙂
Tense and chilling. 💜
Thank you, Jude 🙂
My pleasure.
Well done, Denise! LOL, that’s about the way I feel about my wedding, back in the bad old days.
Seriously though, it’s gorgeous and atmospheric. Hugs!
I’m sorry about the bad old days, Teagan but glad you are in the good new ones now. Sending hugs right back. xo
