Here is Colleen Chesbro’s Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge #322. This week we took a quiz to find our spirit animal and then write a poem about it. Mine was the owl: Link
Take the challenge here to find out what spirit animal you are: Link
effortless soaring
above the silent forest
almost touching stars
guided by instinct and sounds
the owl hunts in the darkness
Isn’t it cool how owls can be so quiet when they fly? Great poem, Denise!
It really is. I hardly ever spot one!
Nice!
That poem says it all, Denise.
Thanks, Jacqui 🙂
Interesting. I just took the quiz and learned I’m a deer. I can go with that.
I like that, Liz. Yes, a deer is a good one.
🙂
Beautiful, Denise. Effortless soaring……. oh my, doesn’t that sound amazing. ❤️
Thank you, Gwen 🙂 Yes, I agree it sounds amazing.
A wonderful poem, Denise. An owl is a lovely spirit animal.
Thank you, Robbie 🙂 It is a good one.
I was “told” many years ago that my totem animal was the owl. I will take the “test” again and see if it still holds true. Your poem is beautiful.
That is interesting, Karen. Let me know what it says for you this time. Thank you xo
Lovely poem. 😍 This is fun! I got butterfly and will be blogging mine soon. 😀
This sure was fun, Marje. Butterfly is a wonderful one to get and I look forward to your post.
I love owls and used to have a collection of them. Nice one, Denise!
How fun to have collected them, Joan 🙂 They are so interesting and pretty cute too.
What a beautiful poem, Denise. When I took the quiz, I also got the owl and I do have a strong affinity to them. They are such magnificent creatures. Great response to the prompt!
Thank you, Jan 🙂 How fun we got the same spirit animal. I would love to fly in the night skies. And definitely love how they use their intuition.
I took the test, got a snake,. Didn’t think that fits me, so I took it again, answering differently on the questions with more than one answer that fit me. Still got the stupid snake. Sigh.
Love your poem, Denise.
I saw several got the snake and apparently its a good thing 🙂 Thanks, Staci!
I love owls for their hoot, their eyes and their wisdom! You are blessed Denise. I am glad to hear about your spirit animal.
They are wonderful creatures, Balroop. I love the hoot too and their beautiful eyes. I think we both got lucky with our spirit animals 🙂
I love this, Denise! Owls are such majestic creature.
I was curious about my Spirit Animal. I would’ve guessed a bird of some kind, but it seems mine is a deer. <3
They really are amazing, Mar. It would be wonderful to soar like they do. I would have guessed bear for me. Oh, I like deer too. They visit us often and are so beautiful. Good spirit animal.
I really adore your poem 💜
Thank you, Willow 🙂 It was fun to imagine being an owl!
Excellent 💜💜
You are an owl… how perfect for where you live, Denise. This was so fun!! 🦉
I thought I’d be a bear but agree the owl fit me. It is perfect for where I live too. Great idea, Colleen. xo
I just love this poem. Wondrous.
AND I’m a turtle;) Which I found interesting since they’ve been mentioned on the blog the last two Tuesdays:)
Hugs
Thank you, Sandra 🙂 Yay turtles! What a fantastic spirit animal that found its way to you. Hugs xo

Thanks, Yvette 🙂 It was a surprise but I like it!
Beautiful poem, Denise! I’ve always loved owls. I’m a turtle – slow on land but fast and agile in the water.
Thanks, Teri 🙂 They are amazing creatures. I’m a huge fan of turtles and like you much faster in the later…lol
Lovely poem, Denise! I’ve always been fascinated by owls. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Thank you, Natalie 🙂 They are amazing creatures!
Beautiful tanka, Denise! I adore owls.
Thank you 🙂 They are special!
D.L., such a perfect characterization of the owl, how it almost touches the stars as it hunts in the darkness. I see them a very spiritual beings also.
Thank you, they do have a bit of magic in them.
I’ve heard hoot owls at night… but haven’t seen any.
Though years ago I did see an owlet in my yard that I think fell out of the Maple… eventually after some staring and a one sided conversation (on my part) the owlet flew away 🙂
I like the owls as messangers in the Harry Potter books.
I hear them too but never see them. What a cool experience to have seen that owlet. Yes, I agree about owl messagers in Harry Potter!
🦉
To soar on wings! Such freedom! Well done, Denise. 🙂
It would be an incredible feeling to soar, Mark 🙂 Thank you!
Agreed!
